It was a beautiful sunny day at Vatuwaqa on Saturday, which had attracted yet another good turnout of golf enthusiasts. There were 106 golfers, who turned up to play in a monthly medal stroke event sponsored by Telecom Fiji Ltd. The tournament was played under play-the-lie because the fairways were in top conditions.
David Oakley, playing on 9 handicap played 6 over, 78 won the first prize in A grade. He scored 69 net. The second and third prizes in the grade were won by Ilaisa Labaibure and Robert Li, who scored 70 and 71 net respectively.
The B grade was won by the S H Park, 67 net. Vinod Gopal, 69 net and Mervyn Low, 72 net on countback won the second and third prizes, respectively in the B grade.
Ishwar Nand, 67 net won the first prize in the C grade. Apenisa Vata, 68 net, won the second prize while PNG High Commissioner, Peter Eafeare, 70 net, earned a third prize in the grade on countback.
Mahmood Buksh played 74 off the stick won a prize for the best gross in the tournament.
A ladies’ national representative, Gye Oh, playing on 5 handicap played 5 over, 77 scored 72 net to win a prize in the ladies’ silver division, while Kamini Lata Singh, 68 net, won the bronze division in the Ladies’ category.
The four nearest-to-pin prizes were won by Marika Vada, Ishwar Nand, Sanjay Singh and Mohammed Rafik for the second, fifth, twelfth and sixteenth holes, respectively.
Lloyd Williams won himself a prize for the longest drive on hole 9.
A 3-day 2011 Fiji Premium Fiji Golf Club Open will be played over the long weekend. Entries close on Wednesday 05th Oct. The field is limited to 180 players only.
