Unfortunately, the current weather experienced around the country has greatly affected the turnouts at Vatuwaqa on Saturday. There were only eighty two golfers who braved the adverse weather conditions to play in the second round of the DATEC (Fiji) Ltd. sponsored summer cup individual stableford event at Vatuwaqa.
Despite the rain in the last couple of weeks, the course was in a playable condition.
A local business man, Eric Nand, who played magnificent two over, 74 gross won the overall best gross prize in the tournament.
Men’s A grade was won by Waqa Bauleka, who scored 42 points. The second prize in the grade was won by Mohammed Rafik, 41 points on countback from Sanjeshwar Ram, who collected the third prize.
Fr. Neronio Vodivodi, 40 points collected a first prize in men’s B grade. The second and third prizes in the grade were won by Yukio Sutomi, 38 points and Judge Filimone Jitoko, 37 points, respectively.
Very good scores were recorded in the men’s C grade. Juni Joe, 42 points won the first prize in the grade on countback from Ashwin Nand, who collected the second prize. Abdul Hasiz, 41 points collected a third prize.
Mahmood Buksh and Tomasi Tuivuna, each played even round, 72 gross shared the win in the professional division.
Agnes Managreve, 37 points and Margret Browne, 34 points, won prizes in the ladies’ silver and bronze divisions, respectively.
Feizal Haniff and Juni Joe each won nearest-to-pin prizes for second and sixteenth holes, respectively.
In the meantime, the third round of the Datec Summer cup will tee off from 8.00 am to 1.30 pm on Saturday.
